Alta Elementary School Garden- Alta, WY
Our partnership with Alta Elementary School began in Fall of 2014. Each month throughout the school year, we visited and provided hands-on lessons based around the needs of a plant. Students explored soil, sunlight energy and seeds among other topics, through creative hands on projects. In the spring of 2015, we partnered with staff and families of AES to install a brand new school garden, designed by the students. The garden includes a greenhouse, five raised beds, an outdoor classroom and a pollinator garden. This summer we will add fruit trees. In the fall of 2015 we plan to explore composting, diverting food waste from the cafeteria to the garden. This project was made possible by funding from the Alta Elementary Parent Teacher Organization, The Whole Kids Foundation, Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, Wyoming Dept. of Agriculture, and Silverstar Communications.

Student Testimonial..

These two brothers love their greens! They are members of the green plate, clean plate club. After a recent "salad party" they went home and told their mother:
"Mom, it was better than pie!"
They just can't get enough. Luckily the greenhouse will be busting with fresh greens through the end of the school year.
