Cost:
$35  The value of this workshop far exceeds its cost and is made possible by funding from the Teton Conservation District.

SOLD OUT! SOAP MAKING WORKSHOP
Saturday, April 13
Private Residence Jackson, Wyoming
Instructed by Ethnobotanist Kevin Taylor
Cost: $20 The value of this workshop far exceeds it's cost and is made possible by funding from the Teton Conservation District.

As a hunter, it’s important for Kevin Taylor to use as much of the animal as possible. As a Father, it’s important that Kevin teaches his daughter where things come from. This soap-making workshop will teach participants in a very hands-on way to make soap using mostly animal fat, a few other oils, lye, and some essential oils. The group will start with rendering elk fat, and end with bars of soap. Participants will finish the workshop knowing where to get soap-making supplies, resources for learning more about soap-making, ideas for experimenting at home, and how to make your own soap.
Materials: Participants should bring protective goggles (i.e. eye-glasses, sunglasses, construction glasses, chemistry goggles, etc), and work gloves.
Age limit: None, although children need to be accompanied by an adult.
HUNTING IN THE TETONS
Saturday October 20th and Saturday October 27th 12-4 PM
Location: Private Residence Jackson WY
Instructed by experienced hunter/gatherer and educator Kevin Taylor
Cost: $40 each/$70
both workshops. The value of this workshop far exceeds it's cost and is made possible by funding from the Teton Conservation District.

Field Dressing Workshop
One of the most anxiety producing parts of starting to hunt or to raise backyard livestock for meat is the part of what to do after the animal has been killed.  No one wants to waste or disrespect the animal. There are many online computer tutorials that demonstrate, however, nothing can take the place of hands-on participation in this process.  This workshop goes through the process of skinning, field dressing (removing the internal organs), and quartering a recently killed animal that will be harvested at Lockhart Ranch and transported to workshop location. Participants should bring their own skinning/field dressing knives.

Butchering Workshop
Butchering meat in your kitchen is just as much a part of the process as the hunt itself or raising the backyard pig.  This workshop will be a hands-on approach in which participants will process meat into steaks, chunks (for stew and stir fry), roasts, and ground meat in an everyday kitchen without commercial machinery.  In the interest of meat preservation diversity, meat drying and canning will also be discussed.

Her creativity developed into a side business through which she sells items primarily repurposed from old sweaters. Anna will teach participants how to use items that would normally be discarded to create an upcycled rug. We will take old sheets and t-shirts and transform them into useable material that can be braided together to create a new rug for a living space.
